Yesterday I finished assembling the z-axis and installed it on the support structure. This photo shows the bot pretty much complete, sans extruder and drive belts:
All in all, a pretty nice looking machine.
The z-axis is a self-contained unit, making it very easy to assemble and maintain:
I’ll be assembling the control electronics this week.

YES, it does look very nice.
Neat, clean and professional looking.
I hope it works as well as it looks!
yeah. looks fantastic.
Thanks!
Very nice. Is a PL coming soon?
The Z platform looks great! What is the coupler between the stepper and threaded rod called, I’ve never seen one like that before.
Tim: McMaster sells them as a “flexible spider shaft coupling”. See McMaster Part# 6408K912 (I’m having trouble finding a url).
Tim: I have this as my desktop background. I think it’s beautiful!
Are you going to publish a bom so we all can do one?
Did it not work? Details?
Arvin: Thanks! I’m glad you like it!
Unfortunately, I still haven’t powered up the motors.
All of the mechanicals move beautifully. Belts are attached and tensioned, and everything is ready to go.
The hangup is that I’ve decided to move to EMC, and so I’m just finishing the controller, and working on configuration. And I’m also moving to a stepper extruder, which I’m developing/building.
So yea, I’ve got too many balls in the air right now.
I’m not sure yet how I’m going to make the design available. I’ll post something soon.
